Beautiful Trees to Hardwood Lumber

No matter what the project, it is important to know what kind of wood suits the project. It is important to know about the different woods and what they are used for. There are several different kinds of woods and their purposes vary accordingly. Hard wood lumber comes in many different strengths, colors, and grains.

Hardwood comes from trees that have broad leaves or produce nuts. Some of the trees that fit into this category include: Oak, Maple, Walnut, hickory, and cherry tree. These are the most common hard wood trees in North America, partially to do with the climate. Hardwood is the correct name for the lumber produced from these species. However, not all hardwood lumber is the same. To figure out what the characteristics, the industry has created a standardized code. The code is for the wood's strength and grade.

Under this classification, the hickory and Pecan are considered the strongest. The classification measurements are derived from how much pressure is necessary in order to mar the wood. For the hickory and Pecan the measurement is approximately 1,820 pounds of pressure. The softest of the wood is the Aspen. Although it is considered a hardwood, its measurement lies at a bout 350 pounds of pressure. Somewhere in between the two extremes is the hard maple which is 1,450 in addition to the white oak which is about 1,360 pounds. A little closer to the soft end of the scale is the cherry at about 950 pounds. The hardest woods are best used for flooring.

When using hardwood it is important to note that it adjusts to its environment. This means that it does contract and expand depending on the surrounding environment. Because it was once living, it is good to think that it continues to do so even after it is cut down. The wood is dried in a kiln in order to minimize this adjustment. It is important to keep the wood in the same shape as when it was manufactured.

Manufacturers of hardwood lumber take into consideration the changes in wood as well as the purpose and design. Take Windsor plywood for example is used most often as sub-flooring in addition to wall bases. Rough cut lumbers that can be used for almost any job include: Dunn, Carter, Lowes, and Siegel. To find hardwood, online stores will typically supply it manufactured as a floor finishing product. However, some research and consideration should always occur before purchasing hardwood for any project. The measurement classification, color, and purpose should all be taken into consideration. Although, it is important to note that any hardwood can be stained or painted to better suit the décor and design of a house. The grain is perhaps the more important characteristic to pay attention to instead of color.

Le Cellar Door - The Most Beautiful Word in the English Language, Says Who?

A couple of decades ago the French scoured the English language to figure out which was the most beautiful word. They came up with the word "Cellar Door" as by far the most wonderful and beautiful word throughout the entire English language. However, one has to ask why they actually picked that word. For instance we know that in cellars it is where people store their wine. Therefore could it be that the French just want to sell us more wine, this is what I suspect is behind the whole thing.

In fact, the French are known for their wine exports, and brag about having some of the finest wine in all of the world. If you don't believe me, you can just ask them and they will tell you. If you are ever in Paris you can stop anyone on the street and ask them; which country has the finest wine, and they will say; "France, of course, French Wines are far superior!" And then they will smile, and then wish you a very nice day, hoping you will spend more money in their country as you visit.

So it is no surprise that the French love the word cellar door, because that is the door that the people of the English language open when they wish to open a bottle of expensive French Wine. And the more times they go down into their cellars to retrieve their more wine, the more they have to buy to replace all they've drank. So to French it really is the most beautiful world in the English Language, and they probably think that door should be green, the color of American Money. Please consider all this.

French Doors - A Beautiful Addition in PVC Or Wood

French doors project a light and airy feel into a room, and PVC french doors, or doors made from rigid polyvinyl chloride instead of wood, can be just as attractive as natural materials.

French entry doors are a practical addition to a home. The large space opened up by the French doors creates a blending of the inside and the outside, as well as a large area of access to the home. With the double doors open wide, the room is well ventilated, reducing the need for fans and air conditioning when the weather is warm.

A PVC unit is a popular choice for its customizable qualities. The PVC door can be made in multiple colors, and even finished to look like real wood with real wood grain. French units are made with a variety of glass choices, custom paneling and other patterns, including a variety of double glazing techniques. Because they are hollow, they can be insulated to any rating, making them more energy efficient than solid wood.

Today's PVC doors are manufactured of rigid PVC. This prevents warping, and unlike wood, is not susceptible to rotting, either. Another advantage over most woods selected for french units, is the durability of PVC. With few exceptions, PVC provides longer wear, and is water repellent by design.

Design and features being comparable, the cost of PVC french doors is more economical. PVC doors are molded to specifications, and this includes custom designs, which creates a great savings over handcrafted custom wooden doors.
